Block a Specific IP Address

If you want to block someone coming from a specific IP address from accessing your website, you can use the following code in .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REMOTE_ADDR} ^(A\.B\.C\.D)$
RewriteRule ^/* http://www.domain.com/oops.html [L]

Replace the A\.B\.C\.D with the IP address you want to block (don't forget to leave the "\" before each dot, which escapes the character).

or....

Set up a Default Image -htaccess

Using a default, backup image in case of broken images can make your site look more professional. Use the following code in htaccess file to redirect to a default image for any image whose file cannot be found.

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^images/.*\.jpg$ /images/default.jpg [L]

Preventing directory listing - htaccess

Typically servers are setup to prevent directory listing, but often they aren't. If you have a directory full of downloads or images that you don't want people to be able to browse through, add the following line to your .htaccess file...

IndexIgnore *

The * matches all files. If, for example, you want to prevent only listing of images, use...

IndexIgnore *.gif *.jpg *.png

htaccess - Redirecting YourSite.com to www.YourSite.com

Redirecting YourSite.com to www.YourSite.com
In .htaccess you can set up a 301 redirect (permanent redirect) from YourSite.com to www.YourSite.com...

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^YourSite\.com [nc]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.YourSite.com/$1 [R=301,L]

or

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]
